Keeping Cool with a Portable Air Conditioner

This coming summer, when temperatures soar and make things hot and sticky, its really nice to be able to escape from the heat into your home that is nice and cool. The problem is that most homes were never built to keep cool in summer and therefore need some assistance in the form of a central or whole house air conditioning system. Wile this is a great solution to the outdoor heat and makes for a wonderfully cool house during those hot summer months, the costs involved in installing and then running such a system can be prohibitive, especially in these days of ever increasing power costs, equating to continually growing electricity bills.

There is a great solution to the cost factor of keeping yourself cool indoors when it get really hot outside. That solution comes in the form of a small, portable unit that is capable of cooling a single room rather than the whole house. Being portable, you simply move the unit from room to room as you move around the house. You can buy some really good, powerful, yet still economical portable air conditioners from a variety of stores both in the real world as well as on the Internet.

The real beauty of these small, portable units is that you only pay for cooling the room you are currently occupying, rather than for cooling the whole house, which will naturally have several rooms that are unoccupied at any given time. It seems a terrible waste to be using power to cool rooms that are not even being used, and that waste can be seen when you get your electricity bill and realize that you are throwing money away. Much better to only be paying for the power you use to keep yourself cool, and not a bunch of empty rooms.

There are ecological factors to consider when deciding on the kind of air conditioning you are going to install in your home. You have to ask yourself some important questions, like whether you really need air conditioning in the first place. Some homes can be kept quite cool in summer simply by clever use of shading from blinds or strategically planted trees. If this is not enough, then you can then ask if you need to keep the whole house cool, or if you live alone or as a couple, can you get by much better by just cooling one room at a time? Sometimes this is the most economical and ecologically sound solution and one well worth pursuing.
